Rare and beautiful Old Cottage matching pair, Cinderella and Prince Charming. I have sometimes seen Prince Charming called Mozart, but he is surely this Cinderellas prince. Both dolls are between 8 and 9 inches tall. These 2 dolls look like the same dolls in the b&w photo I have included from the Summers book on Old Cottage dolls, which identifies them as dolls from the Old Cottage Christmas catalogue of 1961. Cinderellas beautifully hand-painted face has blue eyes, rosy cheeks, and a little red pouty mouth. Her white mohair French style wig has a center part with little bun trimmed with flowers and ribbon. She wears a quilted ecru satin gown with ecru brocade overdress trimmed with red, green, and black beading and ecru lace. Her early-style cloth shoes match the brocade overdress.
She carries a feather fan in her right hand. Under her dress she wears lace-trimmed petticoat and knee length pantaloons. She also wears long white cotton stockings. She has the neck tilt often seen on Old Cottage dolls, and is in otherwise excellent condition. Prince Charmings handsome, boyish hand-painted face has blue eyes, rosy cheeks, and a slightly smiling mouth. His white mohair French style wig has a ponytail tied with a black ribbon. He is dressed in 17th century French style, wearing ecru satin knee-length trousers and matching long coat. Under his coat he wears a brocade vest with long front panels and a white shirt with lacy jabot at the neck and lace cuffs. He also wears long white stockings and black leather shoes with silver buckles. Prince Charming has a black ribbon on his right wrist but is missing his walking stick. He will come with a plastic stand. Margaret and Susi Fleischmann produced their Old Cottage dolls in England from the late 1940s through the 1970s. From the early 1950s, doll heads were molded plastic, made using a mixture of polyvinyl acetate and latex rubber.
Bodies were stuffed felt, with jointing at neck, shoulders, and hips. Cinderella and Prince Charming are in very good condition and all original. Enjoy the photos as they are an important part of my description. Please ask if you would like additional information.
I have included photos from A Collector's Guide to Old Cottage Toys: The Dolls of Margaret and Susi Fleischmann by Terry and Christine Summers (first published in 2003), which provides additional information on Cinderella and Prince Charming. The Summers rarity guide identifies each of these dolls as B: Fairly Common, but a matching pair is very hard to find.Thank you for your interest in. Please check my other items if you are interested.
